Firewall
A Firewall is a security program for Laptops and PC’s that protects it from un-authorised access across a network such as the internet. It is recommended that any computer connected to a network especially the internet should be installed with a firewall program such as norton.

Some network routers also provide a hardware firewall which is a lot more robust than a software one but it is still recommended that you run a software one along side for added security.



FTP
File Transfer Protocol
FTP is a system used to manage the transfer of files from one computer to another.

This is mainly used when uploading files and web pages onto a web server from Laptops used by web designers and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) workers.



Favicon
Favourites Icon
A Favicon is an icon used by websites that with some web browsers when saving a website to your favourites folder will display the small icon next to the web address.

Some web browsers will also display this icon in the address bar and some microsoft window operating systems will use this icon when a short cut to the web site is created on the desktop.



Flash
Flash (Adobe Flash) which was previously known as shockwave flash and macromedia flash and is a collection of technologies that allow web pages to display interactive and dynamic content.

It has now become commonly used and many websites have been completely created using only flash.

This technology is very powerful and can manipulate vector and raster graphics and can also be used to stream video.

It is also commonly used in the design of advertising banners.


Flash Memory
Flash memory is mainly found in memory cards and USB flash drives and is used as a medium for data transfer between Laptops and other electrical devices such as digital cameras.
It is none volatile, can be erased and reprogrammed and is very popular with users of gaming machines and Laptops for storing save game data on.



Firefox
Mozilla Firefox is a web browser software used with many Laptops and at the time of writing is the second most popular choice for web browsers behind microsofts internet explorer.



Form Mail (FormMail)
FormMail is a generic HTML to Email script. What this means is that on a standard web page (static html) you can include a form with many variable fields in it for visitors to input data (Name, DOB, address, age for example) and that data will then be emailed to your specified address.
This enables the user to contact the owners of the webiste without leaving their web browser or using their own email client.


Firewire
IEEE 1394 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)
Firewire is a very fast digital link allowing data transfer such as video and audio between electrical storage devices such a video cameras and Laptops.
iLink is pretty much the same only it is a registered trademark of Sony Corp.
