LAN
Local Area Network
A Lan is a small network most commonly found in offices where there are more than one computer and file sharing or printer sharing is required. A Local Area Network is also used at many gaming events were players play against each other on their own Laptops or play co-operatively for example in a clan.

A LAN provides very fast data speeds and now more and more Wireless Local Area Networks WLAN are being used negating the need for any cables.

Log File
A log file is a file automatically created and maintained by a web server. It records and logs down the history of page requests and this information is usually only accessible by the website owner/administrator.
There are many different software applications such as AwStats that can analyze the log and break it down in to statistics and information such as how many visitors are from the States/UK, what web browsers are they using, how did they get to the website and if it was a search engine what was the search term.
