Parallel Port
A parallel port refers to a 25pin interface connector found on most Laptops and is used mainly for connecting to your printer.
Now days most printers are connected using the Faster USB2 connection.



PDA
Personal Digital Assistant
A PDA is an electronic handheld device incorporating many useful features such as time, calendar, scheduler, address book, memo pad, contact list and more.
They are basically a modern day FiloFax and now days most PDA’s have internet access and can run office applications found on many Laptops such as spreadsheets, word processing etc.



PDF
Portable Document Format
PDF is a file format originally developed by a company called Adobe.
What it does is preserve all the fonts, graphics, layout, colours, formatting of files so that they are always displayed the same no matter what Laptop or computer it is opened with.
Because of this, PDF documents have become very popular.

Please note that to view a PDF file your computer will require a free software program called ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’.



PCI
Peripheral Component Interconnect
PCI is an intel developed technology found on most motherboards. A PCI slot is used for connecting many of your computers components such as its graphics and sound cards, modems, wireless network card etc



Ping
A PING is a computer network software tool designed to test whether a host is reachable such as web server. It does this by send a small packet of information across the network to the hosts IP address and records the time taken for the packet to return and what trip it has taken (it may pass through several networks/servers before reaching its destination) and also check if any of the data is missing or lost.

This is a great way of using your Laptop to check how fast the response of a webiste is from your location.



POP (POP3)
Post Office Protocol
A POP is an email web server that allows you to send and receive your emails from your computer using an email software client such as microsofts outlook express.
It allows you to just quickly connect to retrieve your emails and then it will disconnect you from the server and you can read your emails whilst not connected reducing your online time and bandwidth used.



Postgre SQL
Postgre SQL is a widely used open sourced database management system.
The software is not owned or sold by any company and it is developed by communities of fellow developers and companies.



PHP (PHP Nuke)
Hypertext PreProcessor
PHP originally stood for ‘Personal Home Page’ and is a server sided computer scripting language mainly designed for adding dynamic content to HTML web pages


Perl
Perl is a dynamic computer programming language and is very widely used for text processing.



Python
Python is a general purpose extremely high level programming language.



PHPBB
PHP Bulletin Board
PHPBB is a very popular forum package written in the PHP language that is used widely across the internet by many different people with their Laptops
